A Simple Morning Cacao Ritual

Some mornings I want coffee. Other mornings I make cacao because I like the slower start.

For me, the useful part is not a promise that cacao will "open your heart" or change your whole day. It is the simple fact that you make it, sit down for a few minutes and actually drink it.

How I make a morning cup

I normally start with around 20–25g of cacao and roughly 200ml of hot water or plant milk. Chop or shave the cacao if needed, warm it gently and whisk or froth until smooth.

Cinnamon, vanilla or a little sweetener are optional. The cacao itself is enough.

Choose the origin, not a promise

Mother Earth works with cacao from different origins including Guatemala, Venezuela, Ecuador and India. They taste different and they carry different source stories, so I would rather keep those differences visible than tell you one cacao creates a guaranteed feeling.

Make the ritual fit your actual life

You might journal while you drink it. You might sit quietly, start work, listen to music or just have ten minutes before the day gets busy. There is no requirement to make it spiritual and there is no wrong way to enjoy a simple cup.

The people behind the cacao still matter

The source is a big part of why cacao remains at the heart of Mother Earth. Different origins mean different producers, communities and relationships behind the product.

Cacao naturally contains theobromine and some caffeine. If you are new to it or sensitive to stimulants, start gently and follow the directions on the product you choose.
