Cacao and Rose: A Simple Floral Cup, No Big Ceremony Needed

Sometimes I like cacao exactly as it is. Other days I want something a little different, and rose can bring a gentle floral note without needing six extra ingredients.

There's nothing particularly complicated about this. You don't have to call it a ceremony. If you have ten quiet minutes and a decent block of cacao, that's a good start.

What I would use

Start with a cacao you already enjoy from the ceremonial cacao range. Use its current pack directions and the serving you're comfortable with. For the rose element, choose a small amount of our Rose Petal Powder 70g, which is described for suitable food and drink recipes on its product page.

You'll also need water or a milk you like, a small pot and a whisk or frother. Sweetener is optional. I tend to keep it straightforward so I can actually taste the cacao.

Make the cacao first

Chop or portion the cacao, warm your liquid and mix gradually until it comes together. Follow the product directions, avoid overheating and take a moment to check the texture before serving.

Add a very small pinch of rose powder, mix again and taste. You can add a little more next time. It's easier to build up the floral note than undo it once the whole cup tastes of rose.

Petals are another option

If you prefer the loose form, our Organic Rose Petal Tea has its own tea-preparation guidance. You can prepare and enjoy it separately, or follow the instructions for adding rose petals to cacao where applicable. A rose garnish should be food-grade and properly labelled, not simply any dried flower you find.

What about the rose tincture or oil?

This is where I want to be very clear. The Bulgarian Rose Tincture is a separate preparation with its own bottle directions. Don't assume it's a food ingredient because it sits in a cacao gift bundle. The same applies even more strongly to cosmetic or essential oils. Don't add either to a drink unless that exact product is expressly labelled and authorised for the intended food use.

Heart-opening without making promises

People sometimes describe cacao and rose as a heart-opening combination. I understand the sentiment. A warm cup, a familiar scent or a bit of quiet can feel meaningful. But it isn't a medical effect we promise, and nobody has to have an emotional experience to enjoy it.

If you want a prepared cacao with rose already blended in, have a look at our Rose Infused Ceremonial Cacao 100g. For a broader explanation of the different rose products, read Rose Petals, Powder or Tincture?

Make a good cup, sit down and enjoy it. That's enough.
