Article: A Cup of Cacao & a Little Skincare Time at Home

A Cup of Cacao & a Little Skincare Time at Home
I've always liked the idea of making a little time for yourself at home without having to buy a whole shelf of products. A cup of cacao, a few quiet minutes, maybe a bit of skincare afterwards. Nothing complicated.
We've recently added a few simple facial massage sets to Mother Earth, and I thought it was worth explaining how I'd put the bits together. The cacao and the facial tools have different jobs, so you don't need to turn them into one big beauty routine.
Start with the cacao
Our Ecuadorian Barista Cacao Powder 100g is €7. It's pure culinary cacao powder, handy for a warm drink, baking or adding to porridge. It's not ceremonial cacao and we're not selling it as a skincare treatment.
For a simple cup, stir a little cacao powder into warm milk or your usual alternative, sweeten to taste and give it a good whisk. That's a lovely enough start on its own.
Then take a few minutes for your face
If you enjoy facial massage, a roller or gua sha can be a nice part of your usual skincare routine. Apply your normal facial oil or serum first so the tool glides comfortably. Use very light pressure, keep the tools clean and don't use them over irritated or broken skin.
We've put together a Cacao Powder & Facial Massage Mini Ritual with the Ecuadorian powder and our facial massage duo. There's also a Cacao, Black Gua Sha & Facial Roller Bundle if you'd prefer the black tools.
What about a homemade cacao face mask?
You might see recipes online for mixing cacao powder into DIY face masks. Just remember that food-grade cacao hasn't been tested or sold by us as a cosmetic product. Skin can react to homemade mixtures, particularly around the eyes or on sensitive skin, so I wouldn't promise any skincare benefits from it.
Personally, I'd keep the cacao for the mug and use products made for your skin when it comes to your face. It keeps things simple.
A little routine, not another thing on the to-do list
Make your cacao, put the phone down for a few minutes, and use your facial roller or gua sha if you fancy it. You don't need a big ritual or a long list of steps.
If you're comparing the different kinds of cacao we sell, I've also written about the difference between ceremonial cacao and cocoa powder. They're different products for different uses, and it's worth knowing what you're buying.
