Counsellors, Psychotherapists and Wellness Products: Keeping Boundaries Clear
Mother Earth has customers and contacts from all sorts of professional backgrounds, including counselling and psychotherapy. I appreciate that, but I'm careful not to talk about those professions as though they're the same as a cacao circle or a personal ritual.
If you work with clients in a therapeutic setting, the service you're providing is your professional work. A product on a shelf doesn't become part of a treatment just because it sits in the waiting room.
A small retail corner isn't a clinical service
Something like a journal, a mug or a properly labelled herbal tea might suit certain adults as an optional retail product. It depends on your setting, client population and professional boundaries. It shouldn't be described as something that treats anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction or any other condition.
I'd also be mindful of the pressure someone may feel if an item is recommended by the person providing their care. People should never feel that buying a product is part of receiving therapy.
What about cacao?
Our ceremonial cacao is food with its own ingredients and naturally occurring stimulants. It is not psychotherapy, counselling or addiction support. If you facilitate cacao circles as a separate activity, that has its own practical, consent and safety requirements. Our Cacao Facilitator Training teaches cacao preparation and facilitation, not clinical qualifications.
Practical support for someone running a practice
The Practitioner Business Guide is mainly about ordinary small-business matters such as costs, marketing, venues and finding customers. It's not advice on clinical practice, confidentiality, therapeutic techniques or professional regulation.
For any reception retail, our Treatment Spaces page covers modest product options. The wider Practitioners & Modalities guide makes the distinction between clinical professionals, complementary practitioners and personal ritual clearer.
Keeping trust intact
I think trust is worth more than trying to sell someone an extra bottle. If a particular product or collaboration isn't appropriate for your practice, that's a perfectly good decision. We can work with professionals without making claims about outcomes or blurring what they are qualified to do.
For businesses who want suitable stock, Mother Earth Wholesale & Trade is the place to ask about availability and arrangements. It should always be a separate, transparent conversation.
