Green Tea, Matcha and Hojicha: Which One Suits You?
Green Tea, Matcha and Hojicha often sit beside each other on the Mother Earth shelves, but they are three different drinking experiences.
Ceylon Green Tea
Our Ceylon Green Tea is loose leaf tea. You steep the leaves in hot water, then remove or strain them before drinking.
It is the most familiar format of the three: light, clean and straightforward.
Matcha
Matcha is finely milled green tea powder. Instead of steeping leaves and taking them out, you whisk the powder into the drink itself.
Our ceremonial Matcha comes through our relationship with a three-generation tea family in China: Yuan, his son Alex and little Alex. I like keeping that family connection visible because it makes far more sense than pretending Matcha is just an anonymous green powder.

Hojicha
Hojicha is roasted tea. The roasting gives it a warmer, toastier flavour and a completely different character from bright green Matcha.
Our Hojicha comes through the same family tea relationship as our Matcha. It is generally lower in caffeine than typical Matcha, which is one reason some customers prefer it later in the day, but it is still tea and is not completely caffeine-free.

Which should you choose?
Choose Ceylon Green Tea if you want a simple brewed loose-leaf tea. Choose Matcha if you enjoy a whisked powdered tea and the fuller Matcha experience. Choose Hojicha if you like a warm roasted flavour and want something softer than Matcha.
There is no need to make every cup a wellness project. Matcha can be part of a morning routine, Green Tea can be an afternoon cup and Hojicha can simply be something warm you enjoy. The best one is the one you will actually drink.
