How to Store Dried Blue Lotus and White Lotus Botanicals

Dried flowers can be beautiful, but they do need a bit of care. Leave a pouch open on a damp windowsill and it won't stay in the condition it arrived in. The good news is that storing dried botanicals is usually very simple.

At Mother Earth we have Blue Lotus and White Lotus in different dried formats. Whole flowers, petals and finely chopped botanicals look different, but the basic storage advice is much the same.

Keep the pouch dry and properly closed

A cool, dry cupboard is a much better place than beside the kettle or in direct sunlight. Close the pouch after using it and handle the contents with clean, dry hands. If you move the flowers into a jar, make sure the jar is completely dry and has a lid that fits properly.

Humidity is the enemy here. The aim is to protect the dried botanical from moisture, strong smells, dust and repeated handling.

Whole flowers or petals?

Whole dried flowers keep their recognisable shape. Petals are loose and easier to arrange in a shallow dish. Finely chopped botanicals are smaller again. None of those descriptions, by itself, means a format is more powerful or effective.

If you want to see the difference before ordering, our Blue Lotus format guide and 50g flowers and petals listing are good places to start.

Don't confuse a botanical with something sold for drinking

This is an important distinction in our range. Mother Earth supplies Blue Lotus and White Lotus as dried botanicals for personal and ritual use. They are not sold as foods, teas or food supplements.

Our Wellness Teas collection contains separate products intended for drinks, such as chamomile and hibiscus. Being a dried flower doesn't automatically make every botanical a tea ingredient. Always follow the description and label of the exact product you have.

What if something looks wrong?

If a botanical becomes damp, develops visible mould or has an unusual smell compared with when you received it, don't use it. Keep the batch or order information so we can help check any concern with the supplier.

We source our current Blue Lotus through our Sri Lankan relationship with Mithula and the growers he works with. That's one of the reasons we like keeping the product details and origin clear rather than hiding everything behind grand-sounding language.

Have a look through the Botanical Flowers & Rituals collection if you're comparing formats or putting together a small personal ritual space. A properly stored pouch and a bit of care are plenty. It doesn't need to be complicated.
