Free Cacao Beginner’s Guide | Mother Earth Wellness

Hi, I’m Garrett. I put together this free cacao guide because I want more people to feel comfortable getting started with cacao. You don’t need to know everything about it before making your first cup.

Free beginner’s guide to cacao

It covers the things people most often ask us: where cacao comes from, what makes one origin different from another, how much to use, and how to prepare it with water or plant milk. There’s also a bit about personal rituals, cacao ceremonies and sharing it with other people.

No purchase, payment or checkout needed. You can open the PDF now and save a copy.

If you’d like to stay in touch with Mother Earth, our existing email signup is here. News and offers are optional; you can download the guide above either way.

Want to try a cup today?

For a smaller first cup, try 10g of pure cacao with 100–150ml warm water or plant milk. For a fuller everyday cup, try 20g with around 200ml. Chop the cacao, warm the liquid gently and whisk until smooth. Cinnamon or a little sweetener is optional.

Cacao naturally contains caffeine and theobromine. If it’s new to you, start with a smaller amount. The guide has more on portions and the practical things to check.

The cacao and the people behind it

Our cacao comes from different origins, including Guatemala, Venezuela, Ecuador and India. The flavour, preparation and stories behind them are not all the same. I think it’s worth knowing where your cacao comes from, not just how to make a drink with it.

Want to explore cacao further?

Some people just want a good cup at home. Others find themselves drawn to ceremonies and holding circles. Katie Duggan and I offer Cacao Facilitator Training, online and with a practical day in New Ross, for anyone who wants to learn more. There’s no pressure to do training to enjoy cacao.
