Cultural context

White sage has important cultural and ceremonial significance within a number of Indigenous traditions in North America. If you choose to use it in your own space, we encourage doing so respectfully rather than presenting those traditions as a generic wellness trend.

If you choose to burn it

Light the end briefly, allow it to catch, then extinguish the flame so the bundle smoulders. Place it over a heatproof dish and use only in a well-ventilated space.

You can also keep the bundle unburned if you simply like the natural aroma or appearance.

Safety: Never leave burning or smouldering material unattended. Keep away from children, pets, fabrics and other flammable materials. Avoid inhaling smoke directly and stop use if smoke causes irritation.
