Cacao Instead of Coffee? A Practical Morning Comparison
I like coffee. I also like cacao. They are different drinks, and I do not think one needs to be turned into the villain for the other to make sense.
Some mornings I choose cacao because I enjoy the richer taste and the slower preparation. Other people will still prefer coffee, and that is completely fine.
Cacao is not caffeine-free
Cacao naturally contains theobromine and some caffeine. Coffee is generally much more associated with caffeine, but the exact amount in either drink depends on the product, serving size and preparation.
People also respond differently to stimulants, so I would not promise that cacao will make everybody feel calmer, more focused or more energetic.
The biggest difference for me is the ritual
Coffee can be very quick. Cacao normally asks you to chop, melt, whisk or blend it. That extra few minutes is part of why I enjoy it in the morning.
It can be a warm everyday drink without needing to become a ceremony.
How to try it
Start with around 15–25g of cacao in hot water or milk and adjust from there based on taste and the directions on your product. Larger servings are not automatically better.

Cacao, coffee or Matcha?
If you are choosing between different morning drinks, taste and routine matter as much as marketing. Matcha is another option, but it is green tea and also contains caffeine.
