Keith’s Cacao in Ireland: The 454g Block and Other Origins

Some people already know exactly what they want when they ask for Keith’s Cacao. Others are new to it and want to know how it differs from the other Guatemalan cacao we stock at Mother Earth.

Here’s a straightforward look at the 454g block, where it comes from and a few other cacao origins worth knowing about.

Keith’s Cacao from Guatemala

Keith’s Cacao is its own Guatemalan brand, known by cacao drinkers around the world. We carry the 454g block at Mother Earth in Ireland for customers who already know it and for people who are curious to try it.

The brand takes its name from Keith Wilson, who passed away in 2023. Keith’s Cacao continues today.

Is Keith’s the same as our other Guatemalan cacao?

No. Guatemala is a country, not one flavour or one cacao producer. Keith’s is a separate brand. Our Entre Nubes comes from Alta Verapaz and has its own cooperative story; Caoba is connected with cacao prepared by Mayan mothers around Lake Atitlán; and Cahabón is another origin associated with Q’eqchi’ community agriculture.

These are genuinely different cacaos, not the same block with different packaging. Have a look at the origins and choose one that appeals to you.

There's more about the people and places in our story of the three Guatemalan origins.

And what about Amma, Venezuela and Ecuador?

We also carry Amma cacao from India, Just Cacao from Venezuela and Mother Earth cacao from Ecuador. Each brings something different to the shop. It’s nice to have a choice.

If you're starting from scratch, our cacao collection puts the current options in one place.

Making a cup, or learning more

You don't have to attend a ceremony to enjoy cacao. Some mornings it's just something warm to prepare and drink without rushing. We've put together a free beginner’s guide with a simple cup, preparation tips and a bit about origins.

For those who want to learn how to hold cacao circles, Katie Duggan and I also run Cacao Facilitator Training through Mother Earth. It's our own independent training programme, not part of Keith’s Cacao or its practitioner training.

Buying cacao in Ireland or for a business?

Mother Earth is an independent Irish retailer. We stock Keith’s Cacao as one of several cacao choices, with delivery to destinations available at checkout. If you run a shop, café or wellness studio, you can also read about our wholesale and trade range. Keith’s-brand bulk availability and trade terms would need to be confirmed separately; a retail listing isn't a promise of wholesale supply.

Whether you stick with a cacao you know or try a new origin, go with what you enjoy.
